6th Grade Communication arts
The purpose of this elective course is to provide students with the opportunity to increase their presentation and listening skills. Through a variety of individual and collaborative speaking/performing projects, students will engage in critical thinking and develop more confidence with public speaking. Units will include improvisation, dramatic interpretation, formal and informal speeches, and basic theatrical structure (including the creation of artistic elements such as costumes, set and props).
7th grade communication arts
In this course students perform musical selections from a variety of cultures, languages, historical periods, and styles. Students learn and apply skills, including tone production, breath management, vocal technique, and stage presence. Students learn and apply ensemble skills, such as listening, blending, and balancing. Students demonstrate their understanding of basic music theory by learning and applying basic sight reading skills. Students prepare for and perform in different settings, such as concerts, school activities, and MSVMA festivals.
8th grade communication arts
This course provides students the opportunity to learn how to train their voice musically and to develop their knowledge of music. In addition, students will learn choreography and experience live vocal performances.
