Boys & Girls Cross Country

Welcome to the Oak Valley Cross Country season!  Here’s some information for those looking to plan ahead and for those looking to get a jump start on the season.  First and foremost, we take runners of any background from beginners to advanced.  There is no experience necessary.  There are no cuts, just come to practice and you are on the team.

 

It is helpful for athletes to start stretching and going for short runs before the season starts.  (This is not mandatory but we don’t have a long time between our first practice and first meet so it will help with performance)

Physicals:It is required that every student athlete have a NEW physical dated after April 15, 2021 prior to being allowed to participate at the first practice. Physical forms can be found here. Please complete and return to Coach Browne or the front office before the first practice. This physical will cover the student for any sport they participate in this school year. 

 

Registration:  All athletes must register and fill out the appropriate forms with the HVS district prior to participation. Register through Final Forms. After we submit the team roster, you will Pay to Play through eFunds.

Meet Information: Tentative plan for meets is that they start around 3:45 pm for the 1 mile (usually 6th graders) and 4:00 pm for the start of our 2 mile races.  (6th graders can opt into this race if they choose but it's mostly for 7th/8th Graders) More details about meets to follow.  

Shoes:  It is critical to avoid injury that athletes have good pairs of running shoes.  This will help avoid shin, knee, hip and other issues.  If you go to a running store they will also evaluate the stride of runners and recommend a shoe for their stride.

Practices:Practices will take place after school at Oak Valley until 4:45 pm for the first week, then will drop to 4:30 pm (extra time the first week allows us time to get kids into the routine).  After-school practices begin on the first day of school (9/8).  We will tentatively plan to meet in the cafeteria and then move outside (weather permitting).  It is important to know that we run rain or shine.  We will take measures to help with the heat, and if there is severe weather or something that will cause us to cancel we will do our best to make that call in enough time for athletes to be picked up or ride the bus. For athletes missing practice for any reason we have workouts posted in our Google Classroom.

Google Classroom: All athletes and parents are welcome to join the new Oak Valley Cross Country Google Classroom.  The code is: 7trtcst. Inside athletes will find a form for sign up, workout summaries, and race times for athletes to follow.

Safety:It is important that athletes bring their own water bottle to practices. It is important that athletes follow our stretching routine even on days when at home. Some of the activities are designed for injury prevention and need lots of reps to be effective.

T-Shirts: We order new matching shirts each every year.  These are for the athlete to keep.  Athletes are registering sizes as they sign up since we need to get the orders out quickly.  Shirts will cost $15.  Checks can be made out to Oak Valley Middle School and given to coach.
